The Herbal Journey Of Clinical Herbalist & Author Maria Noël Groves
In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Maria, a fellow clinical herbalist who has a deep connection with nature and the healing power of plants. We had a good time crushing on Lemon Balm in this episode, and how her mom initially bought it because it's Melissa officinalis, same name as her cousin.
Growing up, Maria spent much of her time in the woods, picking wildflowers and exploring the natural world around her. Her mother, who was a holistically-minded OB nurse, had a passion for gardening and herbs, which sparked Maria's interest in herbal medicine.
Maria shares with us how she transitioned from a career in journalism to herbalism, including her time working for Natural Health Magazine. I’m pretty sure I binged her articles back in the day and didn’t even know it.
Maria studied with herbal legends Michael Moore and Rosemary Gladstar, and started her own herbal practice in 2007.
During our conversation, Maria reveals her three favorite herbs: Lemon Balm, Tulsi (Holy Basil), and Korean Licorice Mint.
Korean Licorice Mint is a new one to me, and apparently it’s a rarity to find. But, thankfully she saved some seeds and passed them onto the farmers at Heartwood Forest Farm. So, if you want to try some, I highly recommend supporting that small woman run farm.
Maria also emphasizes the importance of taking the time to get to know each plant individually, to understand how it works with your body, as every body responds differently. Once you build a relationship with a plant, you can add on new ones to your repertoire.
Maria has written two books, Body Into Balance and Grow Your Own Herbal Remedies, with a new book in the works.
She works with clients in her clinic, focusing on digestive health, nervous system issues, and hormonal balance. Maria also loves to teach and offers classes on her website here.
Maria's approach to herbalism empowers individuals to take control of their own health and wellbeing by connecting with the natural world and its healing powers.
Be sure to tune in to this fun episode (linked above this article) to hear her inspiring journey and learn more about the power of herbal medicine.
If this inspires you, be sure to share it with your friends, and let's all come together to make herbalism #SpreadLikeWildFlowers
